License Requirements, Fees, and Examination Information:
Fees: Examination: $78; Certificate: $505 (Certified Residential and Certified General levels); License: $455 (Residential level) $380 (Trainee Level).

Experience Requirement: Trainee License: None; Residential License: 2,000 hours over a minimum period of 12 months; Certified Residential License: 2,500 hours over a minimum period of 30 months; Certified General License: 3,000 hours (including at least 1,500 non-residential) over a minimum period 30 months. Experience must be in conformance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
Average Time to Process Application: 90 days.
Renewal Period: Two years. An average of 14 hours per year of continuing education must be submitted every other renewal period along with 7 hours of the USPAP update course. There is a two-year grace period in which a licensee may renew his or her license on a late basis. Licensees may not represent themselves as licensed appraisers during the grace period.
Special License Requirements: Education: Trainee License: 150 hours (must include 15 hours of USPAP) and 4 hour Supervisor/Trainee course; Residential License: 150 hours (must include 15 hours of USPAP) and an Associate’s Degree or 30 college semester units; Certified Residential License: 200 hours (must include 15 hours of USPAP) and a Bachelor’s Degree; Certified General License: 300 hours and a Bachelor’s Degree.
